Drape guide

How to drape
a tissue saree.

Tissue is light and a little slippery. Four steps, and the small pins that keep it in place all evening.

01

Start with the blouse and petticoat

Tissue is sheer, so wear a petticoat close to the colour of the saree and tie it snug at the waist. A contrast blouse, or the running blouse piece, finishes it.

Tuck and wrap

Tuck the plain end into the petticoat at the navel and wrap once around your waist, from the back to the front.

Pleat and tuck

Make five to seven even pleats, about a hand wide. Pin the top edge together so the light fabric stays neat, then tuck them in at the navel, facing left.

Place the pallu

Bring the rest over your left shoulder, spread the pallu so the brocade shows, and pin it at the shoulder. Let it fall; the drape is the point.
